Breathe Easy: Delhi gears up to combat pollution in summers

Aiming to ensure clean air, Delhi government is coming up with a 16-point action plan to combat pollution in the upcoming summer season.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal led government is preparing new action to curb pollution following the success of the previous summer season plan.
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai held a review meeting for preparing new action with 30 concerned departments that will be submitted to CM Kejriwal on 24 April.
“The Kejriwal government has worked tirelessly to combat pollution. The Winter Action Plan, which was implemented last year, has led to a steady decrease in PM 10 and PM 2.5 levels in Delhi.
Moreover, the pollution level has decreased by more than 30 percent in the past eight years,” he added.
Rai said now the government is coming up with an action plan for summers, focusing on 16 focus points, to combat pollution.
“Besides the 16 focus points for summers, the government is mulling to an immediate and long-term action plan to control Delhi’s pollution and implement it.
After today’s meeting, the Environment department directed for a detailed action plan on the basis of the reports/suggestions submitted by all the departments,” the Minister said.
Rai further stated that the detailed report for the summer plan will be submitted to Kejriwal and it is aimed at formulating a joint strategy against pollution inside the national capital.
