Where our society went wrong, Delhi Min on teenage girl’s murder
New Delhi
Even as everyone is in shock over the brutal murder of a teenage girl in the Shahbad Dairy area, Delhi Education Minister Atishi on Wednesday said we need to think about where we went wrong as a society.
Atishi said the brutal incident has starkly reminded everyone about the importance of prioritizing children.
“The passerby just stood by or went on doing their daily routine and no one bothered to save the teenage girl from the attacker while there are debates as to who is responsible.
This is certainly a law and order situation but the incident has also raised deeper questions for society and the country about where they had gone wrong.
It has made everyone question the circumstances that might have led a young person to commit such a violent act,” she added.
She further stated that not only the attacker but the people present at the crime scene and failed to react; and our society is collectively responsible for the crime.
This had further raised questions about what could be done by us as a society, country and educators to prevent a repeat of such horrific crimes.
Atishi who also holds the charge of the Women and Child Development department made these remarks while unveiling 4th issue of ‘Children First Journal on Children’s Lives’.
The issue focuses on crucial issues impacting children’s lives and it has 30 writings and research papers including 6 from children with paintings of children from across the country.
She reiterated CM Arvind Kejriwal government’s vision and initiatives for the children of Delhi to provide equal opportunities and improving the quality of education.
