Water Cess on Hydropower projects controversy: HP to hold talks with power developers

The Himachal Pradesh government on Tuesday announced to constitute a committee to hold talks with concerned departments and power developers amid controversy over water cess on hydropower projects.

The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in Shimla.

The committee ‘under the chairmanship of Secretary Power,  representatives of Jal Shakti Vibhag, Finance and Law departments to hold talks with power developers on water cess to be imposed on various power projects’, an HP government official said.

The Cabinet approved the construction of Rajiv Gandhi Govt Model day-boarding schools at three new sites, Jwalamukhi, Fatehpur in Kangra and Bhoranj in Hamirpur district.

The government has decided to 89 posts including 69 Jail Warder posts in the Prisons department and opening up of 3 highway-cum-tourist police stations at Bhager Nerchowk and Bhunter on Chandigarh-Manali NH.
