Over 2,500 parcels containing 6,700 pet drugs meant to be delivered in various parts of the United States, were seized at Britain’s Heathrow International Airport on Monday.
The operation was jointly conducted by the sleuths of the UK’s Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“Over 2500 parcels were identified as containing 6,700 veterinary medicines, mainly flea and worming treatments for pet animals, destined for the USA,” a UK government official said.

The parcels were reportedly ordered online from pet drug stores based in Shropshire, a landlocked county in Britain’s West Midlands.
The official said the stores had been identified as Discount Pet Mart, Canada Pet Care, Best Vet Care, Budget Vet Care, Budget Pet Care, Pet Care Supplies, Vet Supply, Budget Pet World, Paradise Pet Store, Canada Vet Express, Pet Care Club & Our Pet Warehouse.
“The medicines were seized under Regulation 31 (Exports) of the VM Regulations which implies that no one can export a pet drug unless the product is legally used in the host country,” he added.
