UK Home Office seeks applications for 16 members in ACMD

The United Kingdom Home Office on Wednesday announced the recruitment of 16 new members in the Advisory Council on Misuse of Drugs (ACMD).

A UK Home Office spokesperson said it is seeking 16 new members for AMCD with expertise on drug use among its citizens.

Commenting on the recruitment drive, ACMD Chair Prof Owen Bowden-Jones said it is an excellent opportunity to bring expertise into the Council.

Jones urged individuals with expertise to apply for this role and provide independent scientific advice to the government.

The expertise areas include:

  1. Impact of drug use on society and communities – for example, antisocial behavior.
  2. Public health-related prevention or education in relation to drug use.
  3. General practitioner with experience in primary care of treating people for drug use and dependence.
  4. Medicinal or forensic chemist in relation to drug use (which may include familiarity with the Misuse of Drugs Act and its regulations).
  5. Police officers or enforcement in relation to drug-related offenses.
  6. Legal (solicitor, barrister or judge) in relation to drug use.
  7. Neuropharmacologist in relation to drug use.
  8. Epidemiologist in relation to drug use.
  9. Behavioral scientist in relation to population behavioral change.
  10. A coroner in relation to drug use.
  11. Clinical or academic psychologist in relation to drug use.
  12. Young people’s mental health in relation to drug use.
  13. International expert in policy or research in relation to drug use.
  14. Clinical pharmacologist, focused on research, including investigational drugs.
  15. Criminologists in relation to detection and sanctions being used to reduce crime in society or prison.
  16. Researcher on the use of illegal drugs for medicinal purposes.

The appointment will be made for an initial period of up to 3 years and the last date for applying for posts is 21 August 2023.
