UK govt asks consumers to claim energy vouchers for prepayment meters
London
Aiming to provide government support to customers, the UK on Wednesday urged them to claim energy vouchers for prepayment meters.
This comes as government support worth 130 million pounds is available to be encashed by customers under Claim Your Energy Voucher Day.
The British government has urged consumers to avail energy bills support and use energy vouchers by 30 June if they haven’t done already.
For this initiative, electricity suppliers, charities and consumers have united with the government for the use of energy vouchers worth 400 pounds for traditional prepayment meters.
The energy vouchers are meant for low-income households in Britain and so far, the consumers have utilized 650 million pounds under the government billing support scheme.
This is in addition to winter’s direct debit of support for them which is received automatically, bringing the total amount to around 11.5 billion pounds.
As per government data, a record number of prepayment meter consumers have used these and the government urging them to utilize it as only one month is left for the scheme.
The vouchers have been sent to consumers via post by their energy supplier and they should contact them if they have any queries.
UK Energy Consumers and Affordability Minister Amanda Solloway said the government’s efforts have resulted in the consumption of 650 million pounds of support to consumers.
“We are redoubling our efforts to reach anyone who still hasn’t claimed this help, and it’s fantastic to see so many join our final push to spread the word.
Tell friends and family or anyone on a traditional prepayment meter to use their vouchers for up to £400 off bills before 30 June as 130 million pounds is yet to be claimed,” Solloway added.
