UK extends 2 pound fare cap till 31 Oct, to be hiked to 2.50 pound from 1 Nov

The UK government on Wednesday extended 2 pound bus fare cap till 31 October but it will be hiked to 2.50 pounds from 1 November 2023.

The ‘Get Around for 2 Pounds’ will benefit millions of people in Britain who are already grappling with high cost of living and inflation in the country.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced 500 million pound funding to bus services sector to ensure long-term stability.

Commenting on the development, PM Rishi Sunak said the decision has been taken to make sure that bus travel remain accessible and affordable to all.

“Buses connect our communities and play a vital role in growing the economy.  They transport people to work, take our kids to school and make sure patients can get to doctors’ appointments.

That’s why we’re determined to protect local routes and encourage people onto the bus, ensuring people can get around easily and in affordable way,” he added.

UK Transport Secretary Mark Harper said the government funding will protect vital bus routes and improve services till 2025 to make it reliable for residents.
