UK: Caroline Croft appointed Director General of Govt Legal Deptt

Caroline Croft was on Thursday appointed as the Director General of Government Legal Department, UK government said in a statement.
Caroline Croft will assume charge in June this year and she will work for Employment with Economic Recovery and UK Governance (EERUG) Directorate.
“She joins the department’s Executive Team and Board working closely with her 2 fellow Directors General and the Treasury Solicitor Susanna McGibbon, bringing with her a wealth of experience thanks to a 30-year career as a government lawyer.
Her role sees her responsible for teams of lawyers working on some of the most high-profile and demanding legal issues of the day. Their work touches on all aspects of everyday life from education to healthcare,” the statement read.
After hearing the news, Caroline Croft tweeted, “I am really pleased to be taking up this post – a different role but continuing doing fascinating, important work with brilliant colleagues in @GovernmentLegal.”
Caroline Croft will be responsible for GLD Employment Group, Education, the Equalities Hub, Transport, Health and Social Care, Work and Pensions and Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
She was a barrister who was called to the Bar in 1991 and she joined the Civil Service in 1992, beginning her career in the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel. She later went on to hold Senior Civil Service posts advising a variety of government departments.
Caroline was previously holding the charge of Legal Director of DHSC since November 2020.
