‘Divided by Law, United by Netflix’ tweet of Temjen Imna Along, the Indian lawmaker from Nagaland, is creating a buzz on cops kinder side amid debate on extra-judicial killings in Uttar Pradesh.
The tweet shows a chained criminal leaning on the shoulders of a cop while waiting for transport at what seems to be a bus stop.
Though he is corrected by a cop from Assam, Ponjit Dowarah by saying, ‘Divided by Law, United by IPL’.
Along, who is already known for witty tweets and replies on social media, has rightly sought to dissipate negativity amid charged atmosphere after encounters by UP cops.
Last night’s killings of dreaded gangsters, Atique Ahmed and his brother, Ashraf Ahmed by alleged right-wing men has further antagonised some sections on cops’ role in these incidents.
Prior to this incident, UP cops had killed Atique’s son Asad and one another accused in an alleged encounter.
The duo were wanted in broad daylight killings of Umesh Pal, a witness in a murder case against Atique Ahmed.
This had led to major political parties in India accusing the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath government of patronising extra-judicial killings and called for his resignation.
