The much hyped film on religious conversions, The Kerala Story will release as scheduled on 5 May as Supreme Court denied plea seeking stay.
As per reports, the Apex Court on Tuesday refused to hear a plea moved by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind which was argued by lawyers Kapil Sibbal and Nizam Pasha.
The petition has termed the film as ‘pure audio-visual misinformation’ and a clear cut case of hate speech aimed at spreading hatred in society.
A division bench of Justice M Josesh and Justice B V Nagaratna said The Kerala Story couldn’t be termed as ‘Hate Speech’ as it has got Censor Board certificate.
The Justices further commented that it is not as someone is giving hate speech from a stage and if they wanted to challenge its release then they should have contested the grant of Censor Board certificate.
And it should be done via proper channels i.e. by first approaching the High Court, the SC Judges said.
To this the lawyers contended that the film will be released on Friday, 5 May, and filed the plea as it will spread hatred in the society.
The Kerala Story film is reportedly based on girls who allegedly fell prey ‘Love Jihad’ and were taken to Syria to join ISIS terror organisation to serve as brides for outfits fighters.
Since the first trailer of the film was released, there have been protests over the veracity of claims that over 32,000 Kerala girls were converted, with even Congress MP from Kerala Shashi Tharoor questioning the claims.
