Aiming for a sustainable economic future, the United Kingdom on Monday announced a plan to decarbonise the aviation sector by 2050.
The 2-year plan to support a wider target of decarbonisation by 2050 was published by Jet Zero Council in Sustainable Skies World Summit at Farnborough Airport.
Jet Zero Council is targeting to decarbonise the aviation sector faster than any G-7 country and grow the economy by ensuring green jobs to thousands of youth.
The plan targets expedited production of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) by investing in first-of-its-kind plants, scientific research and driving down production costs.
Addressing the Summit, UK Transport Secretary Mark Harper underlined the importance of government, industry and academia collaboration to achieve Jet Zero target.
“This government is a determined partner to the aviation industry by helping accelerate new technology, fuels, modernise their operations and work internationally to remove barriers to progress.
Together, we can set aviation up for success, continue harnessing its huge social and economic benefits, and ensure it remains a core part of the UK’s sustainable economic future,” he added.
It is worth mentioning here that the UK’s Sustainable Aviation program is the most comprehensive in the world with focus on boosting investments on sustainable fuels.
