Rip-off fuel charges by supermarkets robbed Britishers of $1 billion in 2022
London
UK’s Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA) on Monday reported that supermarkets robbed Britishers of over $1 billion in 2022.
“Some supermarkets charged over 6p more per litre fuel that adds up to 900 million pounds (over $1 Billion) in 2022,” an official of the UK government said.
The official said the government is planning to force retailers including supermarkets to online display fuel prices to allow consumers to choose fair-price gas stations.

The British government will display real-time prices of various retailers online and help in identifying those who fail to pass on the benefit of lower wholesale prices.
The UK government has decided to make changes in current laws to force all retailers to provide up-to-date prices.
The move is likely to usher in greater transparency and competition while bringing down the cost of living for netizens.
UK Energy Security Secretary Grant Shapps said some retailers are overcharging motorists at a time when families are struggling with the rising cost of living.
“Today I’m putting into action the CMA’s recommendations and standing by consumers.
We’ll shine a light on rip-off retailers to drive down prices and make sure they’re held to account by putting into law new powers to increase transparency,” Shapps added.
