Renovated Timarpur Lake to open for tourists soon, Delhi Min Saurabh Bhardwaj
New Delhi
The renovated Timpaur Lake in North-East Delhi will soon open for tourists to revel in nature’s marvels, Delhi Water Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said on Monday.
The Timarpur Lake project of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s government facilitates the groundwater recharge and it will also resolve the water shortage issue faced by the residents.
Bhardwaj assessed the work on the lake on World Environment Day and directed the officials to ensure quality construction as well as its timely completion.

Bhardwaj along with local residents also planted trees around the sprawling 40-acres area of Timarpur Lake.
“The plan for constructing the lake is in its final phase, with 90 percent of the work from the initial phase already completed.
The project aims to establish an ecological system and implement cost-effective methods to maximise underground water recharge.
A Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is being constructed to channel clean water into the lake and it will aid in water storage, groundwater recharge and contribute to water treatment,” he added.
Bhardwaj said the place which once housed a British-era sewage treatment plant in the 1940s, had become a den of anti-social elements after it was closed and people started dumping garbage in it.
This led to people filing complaints with CM Kejriwal for anti-social activities and foul smells emanating from the place with people altogether avoiding the area.
After this, a project was started to develop Timarpur Lake as a tourist destination and now it will house a food cafe, open-air theatre, butterfly park, gallery, and auditorium.
The lake which will be connected with Signature Bridge, will provide all amenities to people and also create a new eco-system in the area.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal too took to Twitter to appreciate the beauty of the lake and tweeted, “Look at this beautiful lake and beautiful surroundings at Timarpur.
