Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests two forest officials for demanding bribe

Two forest officials were on Monday arrested by Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 70,000 bribe.

The accused have been identified as Block Forest Officer Ramandeep Singh and Munish Kumar, a Daroga posted in Malerkotla forest range, a VB official said.

The duo were arrested on the basis of complaint filed by Gurjeet Singh of Katrin village of Sangrur district ‘CM Anti-Corruption Action Line’.

Singh has alleged that the officials were took Rs 70,000 for not to imposing heavy fines in lieu of cutting of trees of the Forest department.

“The allegations were investigated by Patiala unit of Vigilance Bureau and the duo were arrested after probe found them guilty.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against them and they will now be produced before a court tomorrow,” he added.
