Punjab to follow Telangana model for SCs, OBCs welfare

Punjab government on Wednesday decided to follow the Telangana model of welfare schemes for its SC, OBC and minority population.

This was announced by Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Baljit Kaur after visiting the Telangana state to further discuss and study welfare schemes about which she had learned in past visit.

“Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led will start welfare schemes for SC, OBC and minorities that will be modeled after the Telangana government’s initiatives.

Punjab government is committed to making efforts to create a brighter future for these sections of the society,” Kaur said.

Kaur, during her visit, met several officials of the Telangana government to learn about various welfare schemes launched for them.

“Telangana has implemented a start-up scheme and established T-Hub (Technology Hub) to promote business opportunities for the Dalit community.

Besides, the government provides funding for start-ups through this initiative. Additionally, Telangana’s model of residential schools, degree colleges, and centers of excellence that are operating since 1970, is noteworthy,” the Minister said.

Kaur said other schemes as ‘Dalit Bandhu’ and technical training for youths among others will be replicated in Punjab to benefit to make these disadvantaged communities to become self-reliant and prosperous.
