Punjab to focus on oral cancer screening

The Punjab government will soon start opportunistic screening of oral cancer on a priority basis, Health and Family Welfare director Dr Adarshpal Kaur said.
Kaur announced the oral cancer screening in all districts while chairing a meeting on oral health awareness activities as well dental procedures in all OPDs.
Kaur said the meeting was chaired to strengthen the delivery of dental health services in the state.

The Health and Family Welfare department also organized induction training for the newly designated district nodal officers (DNOs) under National Oral Health Program (NOHP) Punjab.
Kaur exhorted all the District Dental Health Officers (DDHOs) and DNOs from all 23 districts to carry out opportunistic screening of oral cancer on a priority basis.
She also urged them to ensure timely reporting in all dental OPDs.
Adarshpal Kaur emphasized that induction training should also be completed for senior MO Dental, who are going to be promoted as DDHOs.
She underlines the need for oral health care awareness campaigns and asked dental health officials to further intensify info campaigns among the masses.
