Punjab sanctions Rs 10 crore to set up old age homes in Mansa, Barnala

Punjab government on Saturday released Rs 10 crore to construct old age homes in Mansa and Barnala in FY 2023-24.

Informing about this, Social Security Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur said the scheme of old age homes is being run by the department.

“Under Section 19 of the Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, senior citizens’ Home will be set up in all districts.

Under the act, provision is made to manage old age homes for destitute senior citizens and provide shelter to the needy.  

Apart from taking care of the elderly, food, clothing, shelter and medical facilities are also provided free of cost to elderly,” he added.

Kaur stated that Mansa’s old age home will be constructed on 3.5-acre land with a capacity of 72 beneficiaries. While the Barnala facility is being set up on 26 Kanal land with the same capacity.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led government is continuously making efforts for the welfare of the elderly and various schemes are being run for this end.

In addition, continuous efforts will be made to create a suitable environment for the elderly in these facilities so that their standard of living can be raised.

She instructed the officials to ensure transparency and quality in the works of these facilities and use the funds efficiently and effectively.
