Punjab Post Matric Scholarship scheme: Rs 183 released for payments to institutions

A sum of Rs 183 crore was on Monday released for payments to private and government-aided institutions under Punjab Post Matric Scholarship scheme for SC students.
Informing about this, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr Baljit Kaur said that payments for Punjab Post Matric Scholarship scheme till 2016-17 have been released till date.
This was due to the non-clearance of scholarship amount by the Indian government from 2017-18 to 2019-20 by the Central government and the SC students were facing difficulties due to this.
“Considering the problems faced by the students, the government has decided to release 40% of fees of private and government-aided institutions for this period.
As per CM Bhagwant Mann’s directions, about 1,900 institutions were audited and according to it, 40% is being paid to these after deducting the questionable sums,” she added.
The Minister said reports regarding the payments of some institutions are ready but the payment is being delayed as the institutions have not uploaded undertaking as directed.
The Minister urged all institutions to upload the undertaking on the Dr Ambedkar portal as per the department’s instructions so that payments can be made to them.
