Punjab: Naib Tehsildar, Patwari among three nabbed for taking bribe

A Naib Tehsildar, Patwari and another person were on Thursday arrested for allegedly taking bribe by Punjab Vigilance Bureau as part of the AAP government’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption.

In the first case, Balwinder Singh, Sardulgarh Naib Tehsildar and retired Patwari Jagjit Singh Jagga have been arrested for tampering with revenue records.

The duo had allegedly transferred 28 acres of Shamlat land in Sema village of Bathinda in the name of some individuals by altering the revenue record of 2005-06 in lieu of bribe.

The persons, who were made owners of common land, then took loans worth lakh of rupees from banks by pledging the land.

A Vigilance inquiry was started in this regard in 2017 and the individuals who had conspired with these revenue officials have also been made a party in the case.

In second case, Aman, a gym supplements shop owner in Batala in Gurdaspur district has been arrested for taking bribe on behalf of a Punjab Police Constable identified as Mohit Bedi.

Bedi, posted with STF Batala, was demanding a bribe from the wife of a man who was arrested allegedly by STF Batala.

When the woman enquired about it from Bedi, he told her to get in touch with Aman and he then demanded Rs 10 lakh for getting her husband released without any case.

The complainant alleged that STF teams had searched her house but no intoxicants were recovered from her home and it forced her to file a case with Vigilance Bureau.

Acting on info, a trap was laid and Aman was caught taking a bribe of Rs 2 lakh as the first installment while the Constable was absconding and a hunt was on to nab him.
