Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Wednesday called for linking IELTS course in main education system to stop loot of youths.
Speaking at a function organized by Indian External Affairs Ministry in collaboration with State NRI department, Dhaliwal called for crackdown on fake travel agents.
Dhaliwal said such fake agents trap innocent Punjabis and then indulge in illegal immigration activities, putting lives of many youth of the state in danger.
“A large number of youth from Punjab and neighbouring states are going abroad and exorbitant fees are being charged for the 4-5 months IELTS course.
Courses like IELTS should be linked to the education system,” he added.
Linking IELTS course with education, he continued, will not only improve English language skills of the Punjabi youth but also stop their economic loot.
He called on the Indian government to stop harassment of NRIs who had participated in farmers protest and said they participated in it out of concern for their homeland.
Dhaliwal said it is sending a negative message in foreign countries as Punjabi NRIs are facing hassles in getting Visas or are being blacklisted.
He also raised the issue of allowing NRIs to agriculture land in Punjab and stressed on the need for special courts for them to resolve their issues in a time-bound manner.
He urged Indian government to give directions to Embassy officials to act with compassion with NRIs as their attitude towards their complaints is disappointing and negative.
