Punjab government on Tuesday directed all officers of various departments to not leave their respective headquarters without prior approval from competent authority.

Punjab government on Tuesday directed all officers of various departments to not leave their respective headquarters without prior approval from competent authority.

Punjab Governance Reforms minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer announced this during the ongoing session of state legislative assembly.

The announcement came in response of call attention motion that was moved by MLA Dinesh Kumar Chadha, who claimed that ‘it has been noticed, some of the government administrative officers go to their homes in Mohali or other places after 5 pm instead of staying at their station, due to which the public work is badly affected.’

“Therefore, necessary orders should be issued in this regard that all the officers should remain at their stations,” he added.

Responding to Chadha, Hayer said “Following the slogan ‘Government is for the people and by the people’ of the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, General Administration Department has issued a letter in this regard.”

“The state government has given more than 26000 government jobs in a short period. With this, where the youth got employment, the people started getting better citizen services also,” he added.

He advised the newly recruited government employees that they were recruited with the tax money of the common people so don’t run for transfers.

“This is an unfortunate trend because every region, and district of the state needs government services, whether it is a border area or a backward area,” he further added.
