Punjab cracks down on US-based drug lord Sarwan Singh’s drug racket, 3 arrested
In a bid to bust the drug trade, Punjab Police along with Central agencies on Saturday carried out raids in Amritsar and bused US-based drug lord Sarwan Singh @ Bhola Havelian.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said in the raid, three members of Singh’s gang were nabbed with 200 gms of heroin along with 6 pistols.
The arrested accused have been identified as Karanjit Singh of Khalra in Tarn Taran, Akash Seth alias Raghu and Sukhdeep Singh, both residents of Raja Sansi in Amritsar.
The accused were arrested on an intelligence input that Singh’s associates will be delivering guns assignment in Amritsar and arrested the accused with weapons along with 10 magazines. The drugs were later seized on the instance on Akash after interrogations,” Yadav said.
It is worth mentioning here that Sarwan Singh @ Bhola Havelian is a wanted criminal with Rs 2 lakh reward for his arrest. Singh is the brother of infamous drug smuggler Ranjeet alias Cheeta, arrested in May 2020 and he is wanted in a 532-kg Heroin haul case.
Ranjit Cheeta had allegedly smuggled 532 kg of heroin seized by the Customs department at ICP Attari in July 2019 and is being investigated by the NIA.
Interrogations have further revealed that the accused were directly in touch with US-based smuggler Sarwan Singh and were supplying weapons and heroin.
SSP Amritsar Rural Satinder Singh probe has also revealed that Akash alias Raghu’s cousin Sanjam alias Mathi of Ajnala, presently lodged in Amritsar Jail, introduced him to Bhola Havelian.
“We will bring Sanjam on production warrant for further revelations. Police teams are tracing the financial trails of the accused persons to unravel the entire nexus and more arrests are expected in this case,” he added.
