Punjab: AIG Ashish Kapoor arrested in disproportionate assets case

Punjab Police PPS cadre officer AIG Ashish Kapoor was on Wednesday arrested by the Vigilance Bureau in a disproportionate assets case and his wife too has been booked in a corruption case.

AIG Ashish Kapoor had allegedly purchased expensive properties in Mohali and Chandigarh which was way beyond his known sources of income.

The PPS officer’s wife Kamal Kapoor too had been booked in corruption for owning unaccounted assets.

Kapoor and his wife had been booked under Section 13 (1) (b), 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and under Section 120-B of the IPC at the VB police station, Mohali.

The PPS officer was produced before a court in Mohali which has remanded into 3-day police custody.

“During investigations, it was revealed that between 1 August 2017 and 31 August 2022, Kapoor had acquired unaccounted expensive assets in his and his wife name in Chandigarh and Mohali.

These properties had a market price much higher than the registered price,” a spokesperson of Vigilance Bureau said.

Kapoor had bought a residential plot measuring 507.5 square yards in sector-88, Mohali for Rs 90 lakhs in 2020 and Rs 2 crore was spent on constructing a luxurious 2-storeyed house on it.

In 2022, he bought a residential plot in ‘The Palm’ colony, New Chandigarh for Rs 34 lakh and a 3-room flat in Sector 63, Chandigarh for Rs 20 crore.

Besides this, various other assets were created by the official who has also served in the Vigilance Bureau and in various districts of Punjab. Further investigations in the case are on.
