Punjab: 3 cops including a DSP caught by Vigilance Bureau for taking bribe

As part of a drive to root out corruption, Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday arrested three cops including a DSP, SHO and an ASI.
In the first case, DSP Sushil Kumar was caught taking Rs 20 lakhs bribe for opening a murder investigation against a person who was earlier acquitted in the case.
The investigation pertains to the 2019 murder case of Mahant Dayal Das who was shot dead by two unidentified persons at Dera Baba Harka Das in Kotkapura.
After the murder, Sant Gagan Das had filed a case against Sant Jarnail Das Kapurewale and others but he was later given a clean chit.
A Vigilance Bureau spokesperson said SP Gagnesh Kumar, DSP Sushil Kumar and SI Khem Chand had demanded Rs 50 lakh as a bribe from Sant Gagan Das to frame Sant Jarnail Das in the case.
Based on the complaint, DSP Sushil Kumar, presently posted at 3 IRB, Ludhiana was arrested and he will be produced before the court on Thursday.
In the second case, Iqbal Singh, SHO, Police Station Killiawali in Sri Muktsar Sahib was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
The complainant Bhim Singh, a resident of Sirsa in Haryana, had alleged that SHO had demanded Rs 20,000 as a bribe to settle a false complaint against his son.
In the third case, an ASI Sukhdev Singh who is posted at Police Station Bhawanigarh, has been arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 8000.
The complainant Hardam Singh of Rampura in Sangrur alleged that the cop was seeking Rs 10,000 for taking action on the complaint filed by him in Police Station.
