Acknowledging the efforts of government in water conservation and management, Indian government has ranked the state of Bihar as third in best states category in National Water Awards 2022.
Conferred by India’s Jal Shakti Ministry, the National Water Awards recognizes excellent work and efforts in the field of water conservation and management by Indian states.
The awards will be conferred by Indian Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar on 17 June 2023 in New Delhi.
Bihar Jal Shakti or Water Resources Minister Sanjay Kumar Jha said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar led government’s initiative, ‘Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali’ is aimed at conserving water and greenery.
Besides, the campaign also aims to ensure sustainable development and providing a greener Bihar for future generations.
“This campaign has received recognition at the national level with global acknowledgements, thereby contributing to the welfare of the nation and world.
The government is making significant efforts for better management of water resources and utilized new and modern techniques for the same,” Jha added.
He said under Nitish Kumar’s visionary leadership, broad thinking and precise guidance, the initiative was started with Ganga Jal Aapurti Yojana being its key component.
“It is the country’s first scheme of its kind, which lifts the excess water of the Ganga River during the monsoon season which would otherwise go to waste.
Th water is then supplied through a 151-kilometer-long pipeline to the water-scarce major cities of Gaya, Bodh Gaya and Rajgir to ensure doorstep drinking water for every household.
This has set a new path for water management in the country with Bihar Jal Shakti department demonstrating innovative ideas and approaches,” he added.
