Protecting Veterans: Britain starts global AI Challenge to predict heart attacks

London

Eyeing to predict heart attacks and cardiovascular diseases in war veterans, the British government on Thursday started a global AI challenge to protect ex-servicemen.

Titled the Veterans Cardiac Health and AI Model Predictions Challenge, it is a collaborative program between UK and US regulators and healthcare departments.

The challenge aims to use Artificial Intelligence by machine learning developers to develop a model that can predict heart attacks or failure-related outcomes for veterans.

The participants will be provided with synthetic data of real records of US veterans for cardiovascular issues including heart failure, hospital readmission rates and mortality.

The US and UK vying to better understand cardio risks to better understand the problem and its specific outcomes to help health systems in both countries.

A Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) official said heart attack or failure or stroke and peripheral artery disease are some of the leading causes of veterans’ hospitalization in the US.

UK MHRA interim head of software said the challenge will provide a unique opportunity for developers to compete with global experts while contributing to this worthy goal.

“Having access to high-fidelity synthetic datasets will be a game-changer in this space, offering an opportunity for participants to test the potential of synthetic data to its limits.

I’m so pleased to be able to work with our US partners, bringing together cutting-edge health data expertise from both sides of the Atlantic.

And I can’t wait to see what the contestants build with this data,” he added.
