The UK has announced a package of 200 million pounds to boost fish stocks and replenish marine life post-Brexit from the European Union.

Britain is planning to introduce a world-class fisheries management system for the best science and expertise to ensure fish stocks are healthy and can sustain in the future.

A UK government official said the measures will help the fishing industry thrive and delivers a healthier marine environment in British waters.

“The new system will be underpinned by Fisheries Management Plans – blueprints to best manage fish stocks including bass, king scallops, crab and lobster for which the UK is renowned worldwide.

The plans are developed with industry and anglers over 18 months and it aims to build a modern, resilient fishing industry while securing sustainable fish stocks,” a government official said.

The new plan also includes a boost for the small under 10-meter vessels, considered the lifeblood of coastal communities. It will make use of our post-Brexit quota increases by removing a cap on the amount of quota they can use, thereby presenting avenues for additional income.

UK Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Thérèse Coffey said the country has the finest fish stocks in the world.

These ‘form an integral part of healthy marine ecosystems while providing livelihoods, enjoyment and prosperity to coastal communities.

Today’s reforms mark a clear departure from the outdated Common Fisheries Policy now we are an independent coastal state.

We will deliver the UK’s ambition to build a modern, resilient and profitable fishing industry underpinned by sustainable fish stocks and a healthy marine environment’, he added.
