Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be conferred with the Lokmanya Tilak National Award for contribution to the progress and development of the nation.

The award will be conferred during PM Modi’s Pune visit where he will lay the foundation of various development projects for Pune City.
The Lokmanya Tilak National Award is conferred every year on 1 August on the death anniversary of freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
The award is conferred by Tilak Smarak Trust Mandir which was founded in 1983 to honour the legacy of the legendary freedom fighter.
PM Modi will be the 41st recipient of the award which has earlier been conferred on Indira Gandhi, Shankar Dayal Sharma, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pranab Mukherjee, Manmohan Singh, N R Narayana Murthy, E Sreedharan among others.

Sharad Pawar, the NCP leader, will be the chief guest of the event which will also be attended by Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinder and Deputy CM Devendra Fadanvis among others.
Meanwhile, opposition parties under the INDIA banner are planning to boycott the visit and Congress has even placed Modi Go Back posters to protest Manipur violence.
