The Indian government on Wednesday clarified that there was no proposal to privatise Postal department and cancelled unions’ recognition for peddling lies.
The Department of Posts unions whose recognition has been cancelled are All India Postal Employees Union Group ‘C’ and National Federation of Postal Employees (NFPE).
The unions’ recognition has been cancelled for peddling lies, irregular utilisation of funds and associating with political parties.
The action of the Indian government was initiated after taking into account Rules 5(B), 5(H) and 6(C) of CCS (RSA) Rules, 1993, a govt spokesperson said.
The recognition of these unions stands cancelled from 25 April 2023 for making non-factual/ misleading statements regarding privatisation of Postal Department.
“It is clarified that there is no proposal to privatise Postal department.
On the contrary, the Government in the last few years has utilised the Postal network for doorstep digital banking and delivery of government services in rural areas.
The post office network has, therefore, been consistently expanded and strengthened over the years,” the spokesperson added.
