‘Mukhtar Ansari brought from UP for VVIP treatment in Punjab jail’
Chandigarh
Upping the ante against former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, CM Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said gangster Mukhtar Ansari was brought from UP for VVIP treatment in Punjab jail.
Not only that, when UP Police approached the Apex Court for Mukhtar Ansari’s custody, the then government hired highly paid advocates to defend him, Mann added.
Earlier, Capt Amarinder had denied Mann’s claims and said he didn’t know Ansari as he was brought for questioning in an extortion case filed by a Mohali based construction firm owner.
Mann further claimed that due to Capt’s connivance, Waqf Board’s prime land in Ropar was allotted to Abbas and Umar Ansari, the sons of UP’s most wanted criminal.

Claiming that former CM hobnobbed with Ansari during his cozy stay in jail, Mann further alleged that Capt’s son, Raninder Singh had met the gangster several times.
Punjab CM expressed his resolve to recover Rs 55 lakh from him and his deputy Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa for making wasteful expenditure to extend the lavish stay to the gangster.
Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari was brought to Ropar jail in January 2019 after an alleged extortion call of Rs 10 crore and the then Congress government led by Capt Amarinder (now in BJP) hired senior lawyer Dushyant Dave to defend him.
Now a fee of Rs 55 lakh is pending to the senior lawyer, which the Mann-led AAP government in Punjab is refusing to pay and vowing to recover this from Capt and Randhawa.
