Meet Delhi players who are going to compete in Berlin Special Olympics

Preeti, Junki, Reshma, Mamta and Mohali are the women with disability from Delhi who will compete in Berlin Special Olympics World Summer Games.
The residents of Delhi government’s Asha Kiran and Asha Jyoti Special Home, these women have honed their sports abilities and become skilled players despite adversities.
The inspiring individuals will proudly represent India in basketball, weightlifting, football, and handball at the Berlin Special Olympics 2023.

Preeti (46) and Mohali (27) are skilled basketball players, Junki Pahadin (22) excels in weightlifting and Reshma (21) is a talented footballer while Mamta (31) is a handball player.
“All five athletes have dedicated themselves to rigorous training in their respective sports for nearly two years in order to secure their spots on the Special Olympics team.
They initially participated in a state-level tourney in 2022, followed by a national-level competition where they demonstrated exceptional skills and determination.
The athletes have proved their mettle in all these competitions and have come a long way to represent India in the Special Olympics,” a Delhi government official said.
The 2023 edition of the Special Olympics is scheduled to take in Berlin, Germany in later this month.
The young women with intellectual disabilities will be accompanied by their dedicated coach, Seema from Delhi.
The women reside in a special home of the Delhi government where they have been given comprehensive training.
On Thursday, Delhi Social Welfare Minister Raaj Kumar Anand met the aspiring women athletes and he offered words of encouragement and admiration during the interaction.
Anand commended them for their outstanding performances thus far and extended his best wishes for their future endeavours.
He expressed immense pride in the exceptional sporting abilities of these talented individuals from Delhi and assured them of top-notch facilities.

In addition to comprehensive training and access to a nutritious diet, the Delhi government will ensure that they have a fully equipped practice space, he added.
