Aiming to make MCD schools world class and showing resolve to transform the education sector in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sanctioned RS 1,700 crore for their facelift.
Informing about this, Delhi Education Minister Atishi and MCD Mayor Shelly Oberoi stated that the Kejriwal government will now make MCD schools world-class as well.
The Delhi government has even released Rs 400 crores for the development of MCD schools for the first quarter.
Atishi said it is the promise of the Kejriwal government to provide quality education to the children and 9 lakh MCD school students are set to benefit from this.
“MCD schools will also be transformed on the lines of Delhi government schools,” she told the media.
Shelly Oberoi said the funds will greatly help in improving infrastructure and facilities in municipal corporation schools.
It is worth mentioning here that there are around 1,500 schools within MCD’s jurisdiction, with nearly 9 lakh children and around 19,000 teachers.
The MCD schools, as per AAP leaders, were found to be in very poor condition and required major and minor repairs.
Some MCD schools require construction of new classrooms while others are in incomplete condition as the construction activities were stopped due to lack of funds.
The schools are struggling with various challenges such as a lack of infrastructure, CCTV cameras, desks for children, toilets for female students, drinking water facilities with severe shortage of manpower throughout Delhi.
