Li Qiang appointed as new Chinese Premier

A day after Xi Jinping was re-elected as the President of People’s Republic of China, Li Qiang has been appointed as the new Chinese Premier.
Qiang will replace outgoing premier Le Keqiang and he was named as Keqiang’s successor in a meeting of China’s parliament.
Qiang is considered to be the trusted lieutenant of Chinese President Xi Jinping and he was the former Shanghai party chief who oversaw strict lockdown in the city after Covid outbreak two months ago.
Qiang’s appointment is being seen as an attempt of Jinping of asserting his stronghold on the country’s polity.
