Lawrence Bishnoi gang extortion racket busted, three arrested

In ongoing drive against criminals as per Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s directions, Punjab police on Wednesday arrested three accused and claimed to have busted Lawrence Bishnoi gang extortion racket.

Informing about this, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the arrested accused have been identified as Rohit Bharadwaj @ Rimmi of Zirakpur, Mohit Bharadwaj and Arjun Thakur of Chandigarh from Sector 69.

“The accused were arrested Special Operation Cell Mohali after detailed investigations,” he said, adding cash worth Rs 14.78 lakh and incriminating evidence has been recovered from them.

Yadav said during investigations, it was revealed that the accused use lure victims via online gaming app Diamond Exchange to bet nominal money to gain huge profits.

As per the modus operandi, the victims used to win some rewards in the beginning and then start to lose after which the accused used to lend money to them.

Once the victim avail the loan which used to be in lakhs, they used to charge hefty interest with the credit accumulating to crores of rupees.

The DGP further stated that as the victims were unable to return the money, they used to threaten through gangsters sitting in jails or abroad to pay back.

The cops have also found details of bank details and payment gateways via which they used to receive money from the victims.

Punjab police is now starting proceedings to freeze these accounts and probe is on to identity the owner of app and its operating location.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang extortion racket members has been booked under sections 384, 506 and 120-B of the IPC and section 25 (7) of the Arms Act.
