Kuno National Park cheetahs renamed, Indian govt announces winners

Indian government on Thursday renamed the Kuno National Park Cheetahs that were imported from Namibia and South Africa in February this year.
After the introduction of cheetahs, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought new names for these cheetahs from people during Man Ki Baat program.
The Indian government has now finalised the new names for Kuno National Park cheetahs and declared the list of winners.
The cheetahs brought from Namibia has been renamed as Aasha, Pawan, Nabha, Jwala, Gaurav, Shaurya and Dhatri.
While the cheetahs brought from South Africa has been renamed as Daksha, Nirva, Vayu, Agni, Gamini, Tejas, Veera, Suraj, Dheera, Uday, Prabhas and Pavak.
Informing about this, Indian Environment, Forests and Climate Minister Bhupender Yadav said, ” Cheetahs named. On 25 September 2022, PM Narendra Modi during his Mann Ki Baat asked people to suggest names for cheetahs reintroduced from Namibia and South Africa.
A competition was thus organised. Happy to share the names of our cheetahs and the winners.

Cheetahs were declared extinct in India in 1952 as the last recorded cheetahs were shot dead in Chhattisgarh owing to sports or bounty hunting and conversion of habitats.
