Kentucky floods: Guv Andy Beshear declares state of emergency

As heavy rainfall is causing Kentucky floods and had left Mayfield inundated, Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency to handle the exigent situation.
In a video posted on Twitter on Kentucky floods, Beshear said, a state of emergency is being declared in Kentucky which will allow us to unlock funds to help all.
“I have declared a state of emergency to help communities like Mayfield and others affected by widespread flooding. This action will allow us to better support communities in these difficult times.
More rains are expected today, please stay alert and safe,” he said in a tweet.
Beshear said last night and today also received heavy rains and the town of Mayfield which had already suffered so much, has suffered significant damage.
He also condoled the death of Porter, an essential member of Team Kentucky who served as executive director for Everybody Counts.
“Kennina was helping more Kentucky youth fulfill their dreams and she will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her family,” he said in another tweet.
As per reports, Western Kentucky is worst affected by record heavy rains and many areas like Mayfield are inundated in water.
Graves County has reportedly received 11.28 inches of rainfall on Wednesday and if confirmed it could break the previous record of 10.48 inches in 1997 in Louisville.
Mayfield which was recovering from an EF4 tornado in December 2021 that left 80 dead, is now braving never seen before flooding.
