Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday said he is separating from his wife Sophie Gregoire and asked netizens to respect their privacy in an Instagram post.

“Hi everyone, Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate.
As always, we remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build.
For the well-being of our children, we ask that you respect our and their privacy. Thank you,” Trudeau said on Instagram.
Sophie Gregoire too issued a statement on Instagram on separation.
She said, “Hello everyone, Justin and I would like to share that after many thoughtful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to go our separate ways.
As always, we remain a close family with a deep love for each other, and for all that we have built and will continue to build.

Trudeau had met Sophie in 2002 in Montreal after his return from Vancouver where he worked as a teacher for several years.
Justin and Sophie married in 2005 and they have three children Xavier, Ella-Grace and Hadrien.
A communications degree holder from the University of Montreal, Gregoire had worked in sales and advertising before becoming a reporter.
