With newly released films as Jailer, Gadar 2, OMG 2, Bhola Shankar raking in over Rs 390 crore in the first weekend, this has become the highest-ever moolah in 100 years’ history of Indian Cinema.

The combined collection of new films has nearly reached around Rs 400 crore in the first weekend in theatres across India.

These figures are the highest in 100 years history of cinema in India.

Besides, the weekend has also recorded the highest ever 2.10 crore viewers in theatres from 11 to 13 August.

This was revealed by the Multiplex Association of India and Producers Guild of India in a statement on Monday.

“Mainstream storytelling executed in the right way has resulted in the box office records being shattered.

The achievement is a result of an incredible filmmaking team with cast and crew creating a special movie-going experience.

The turnout at theatres has infused a new energy in our Industry. Audiences are responding in numbers. We have not seen it for a very long time as even early morning shows are getting sold out.

This weekend has been a wonderful experience for people who love mainstream Indian films” the Guild chief Shibasish Sarkar said.

Rajinikanth’s Jailer film, released in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada languages, has grossed Rs 150 crore till Sunday.

Gadar 2 has grossed Rs 135 crore till Sunday and it has become Sunny Deol’s highest-grossing film till date.

Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 is getting a lukewarm response despite rave reviews. The film has recorded an opening weekend collection of Rs 43 crore.

Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar has failed to deliver at the box office as it only grossed Rs 20 crore in the first weekend.
