The Indian government on Wednesday sought proactive action against Khalistani elements in the United kingdom that are aiding and abetting terrorist activities in the country.
The issue was raised by Indian Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla during a meeting with UK Home Office Permanent Secretary Sir Mathew Rycroft in New Delhi.
The meeting was held as part of #5th India-UK Home Affairs Dialogue (HAD) and both sides reviewed the ongoing cooperation between the countries.
“India and UK have identified further steps that can be taken to explore opportunities and synergies in advancing cooperation in counter-terrorism, cyber security and global supply chains, drug trafficking, migration and extradition,” an Indian government spokesperson said.
Bhalla raised the issue of anti-India activities in the UK including pro-Khalistan extremism among other issues.
“Bhalla specifically conveyed its concerns on the misuse of UK’s asylum status by the Pro-Khalistani elements to aid and abet terrorist activities in India.
Indian Home Secretary requested for better cooperation with the UK and increased monitoring of UK based pro-Khalistan extremists while seeking appropriate proactive action,” spokesperson said.
He added India’s concerns over the breach of security of the Indian High Commission were also emphasised.
India-UK officials expressed satisfaction with the ongoing partnership and agreeing to deepen bilateral engagement and maintain the momentum for enhanced security cooperation.
