India overtakes China as World’s most populous country

India on Wednesday surpassed China as the world’s most populous country, as per the United Nations Population Dashboard.
The UN Population Dashboard now shows that India has a population of 1.428 billion people (142.8 crore) as compared to China’s 1.425 billion people as on 19 April 2023.
