India overtakes China as world’s most populous country

India on Wednesday surpassed China as the world’s most populous country, as per the data released on United Nations Population Dashboard.

The UN Population Dashboard now shows that India has a population of 1.4286 billion people (142.86 crore) as compared to China’s 1.4257 billion people (142.57 crore) as on 19 April 2023.

The UN World Population dashboard records and shows countries population that also includes fertility rate, school enrolment as per gender, info on sexual reproductive health among other indicators.

The data is sourced from United Nations Population Fund, other fellow agencies to highlight health and other rights of people other countries of the world, especially women and youth.

The UN data reveals that India’s population has doubled in the last 75 years and it has now become most populous country, presenting significant problem in front of government to provide jobs and social security to youth.
