India, Japan tie-up to develop stations on Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train line

The Indian government and Japan on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop and manage stations on Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train line.

The MoU was signed by the Housing & Urban Affairs Ministry, Railways Ministry with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

“The MoU envisages to develop surrounding areas of Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Railway (MAHSR) Stations. 

This is being done to enhance accessibility and convenience of commuters, other stakeholders and promote economic activities in station areas vicinity,” an official said.

It is aimed to enhance the institutional capacity of state governments, MCs and UD Authorities to plan, develop and manage surrounding areas of MAHSR stations. 

Under the MoU, four stations of Sabarmati, Surat in Gujarat and Virar and Thane in Maharashtra; out of 12 stations in-route will be developed. 

Surat, Virar and Thane will have Greenfield developments while Sabarmati is a Brown field development.

The Indian government in collaboration with governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra and JICA is also organising seminars and field visits on Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train line.
