Incredible India: Foreign tourists’ arrivals increase by 88% in 2023

After the lifting of Covid-19 sanctions on international travel in March 2022, India has witnessed around 88% increase in international tourists’ arrival to witness Incredible India.
This was informed by the Indian Minister of State for Civil Aviation Gen V K Singh in a written reply in Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Singh said foreign travelers’ arrivals have increased by 88% in the first quarter of 2023 as compared to the first quarter of 2022.
“The number of international passengers had been affected adversely due to COVID-19. However, the situation has improved as witnessed by a rebound in air travelers after the resumption of air travel operations on 27 March 2022.
Though, the market share of domestic airlines for international passengers has not shown an increase as per provisional figures available,” Singh added.
Singh detailed about the plans to attract domestic and international passengers to India and initiatives to further boost the aviation industry.
The Airport Authority of India is undertaking expansion and development considering commercial demand, airlines’ willingness and availability of land.
AAI and other airport operators are targeting a capital outlay of around Rs 98,000 crore during 2019-2024 for construction of Greenfield Airports, new terminals and other expansion and modernization plans.
He added that more than 1.23 crore passengers have traveled on UDAN Flights since the inception of the scheme.
To date, 148 Airports, including nine heliports and two water aerodromes have been developed/operationalized under the UDAN scheme.
