Himachal: National Lok Adalat on 13 May to hear over 2 lakh settlement cases

Over 2 lakh settlement cases will be heard in National Lok Adalat that will be organised on 13 May in all the courts of Himachal Pradesh.

HP State Legal Services Authority (HPSLSA) member secretary Prem Pal Ranta said the adalat is being organised on the directions of Authority’s executive chairperson and HC acting Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan.

“A Special Online Lok Adalat, for MV Challans cases at Pre-litigation Stage along with National Lok Adalat is also being organised in coordination with HP Police and Transport department.

Police officials are also using the online portal for sending SMS messages to the parties and also for online deposit of compounding fees.Online facility for payment of compounding fee through ePay (eCourts Digital Payment) has also been provided in case of MV Challans particularly in the Courts of Traffic Magistrates,” he added.

Ranta said the litigant public is being made aware of the National Lok Adalat through SMS messages, jingles and distribution of IEC material and spreading awareness by associating local bodies Stakeholders, NGOs, representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Para Legal Volunteers, Public Transport Services, etc.

“Till now, about 70,000 cases have been identified by different courts for settlement before the upcoming National Lok Adalat on 13th May, 2023.

About 1.50 Lakh traffic challan cases at pre-litigation stage have been identified and SMS has already been sent to traffic violators through bulk SMS gateway, to facilitate paying of the compounding fee online without any physical appearance before the compounding authority. This figure may increase to 2 Lakh,” he further stated.

The litigant public may avail appropriate opportunity to settle their disputes/claims before the National Lok Adalat on 11 May 2023.

Till date, 525 meetings have been conducted with different stakeholders and 342 pre-lok Adalat sittings of parties have been arranged.
