Haryana: Assistant Town Planner arrested for demanding Rs 40 lakh bribe

Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday Assistant Town Planner (ATP) of Municipal Corporation of Rohtak along with two others for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh.

The Assistant Town Planner in collusion with a private architect identified as Trilok Chand Sharma and one another demanded Rs 40 lakh for stopping the demolition of an unauthorised colony.

Haryana ACB official said the complaint alleged that the ATP was demanding Rs 40 lakh for not demolishing his unauthorised colony built on nine acres of land.

The complaint further alleged that the ATP has asked him to coordinate with Sharma for the payment of the bribe, however, he expressed inability to pay such a huge amount.

Sharma then negotiated the deal on behalf of Rohtak Municipal Corporation ATP and settled the bribe amount to Rs 20 lakh.

However, the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe and filed a complaint with Anti Corruption Bureau.

On the basis of info, a trap was laid where the first installment of Rs 10 lakh was to be paid to the public servant through the middleman.

Sharma was arrested by the ACB while accepting the amount along with another person.

Haryana ACB has filed a case against the ATP along with two other persons at its Rohtak police station and further investigations in the case are on.
