Evading shootouts: A high security jail in Punjab for gangsters with in-campus case hearing

In a bid to curb shootouts and escape bids while on the way to court hearings, Punjab will construct a high-security jail for gangsters with in-campus case hearing facility.

An announcement in this regard was made by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday who said the high-security jail will be constructed near Ludhiana at a cost of Rs 100 crore.

The jail will have separate cabins for hearing cases of dreaded gangsters as they pose a major threat to peace, law and order in the state and keep them behind bars, Mann added.

Mann stated that they have received a nod in this regard from the Indian government and in addition, an ultra-modern office is also being constructed for the Jail department in Mohali.

Besides, high-tech jammers and other equipment are being installed in jails to curb the use of mobile phones by gangsters from inside the prison.

Reiterating that Punjab Police is being modernized to tackle cybercrime with law reforms being introduced, the CM said the state is partnering with Google to update cops on scientific lines.

He announced to induction of anti-drone tech to curb cross-border infiltration and smuggling of drugs and stated that the department is being transformed with modern weaponry and vehicles.
