Empowering Economy: Amazon to aid Indian farmers with agri-tech, marketing

From ensuring fresh fruits and vegetables to its consumers with the transfer of technology to Indian farmers, Amazon on Friday forayed into the field of agri-economy to disseminate precise methodology to boost crop yield.
Amazon’s India initiative Kisan signed an agreement with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the initiative will assist Indian farmers with scientific cultivation for optimum yield and higher income.
Amazon’s Kisan Program will aid Indian farmers in improving their economic conditions by marketing their products through its Amazon Fresh brand to consumers across India.

Commenting on the agreement, ICAR Director General Himanshu Pathak called on the farmers to go for secondary agriculture to earn higher profits.
Highling the role of critical inputs in season-based crops, Pathak said Amazon will provide Indian farmers with technologies, capacity-building exercises and transfer of new knowledge.
The project will aim to ‘expand the collaboration to extend the precise agriculture practices developed through extensive research’.
The tech transfer will be done via Krishi Vigyan Kendras under which ‘ICAR and Amazon will hold demonstrations and trials for farmers to enhance farming practices and farm profitability’.
“Furthermore, Amazon will provide training support and assist farmers in marketing their produce through its online platform, facilitating direct connections with consumers,” ICAR DG added.
