Delhi Mohalla Buses: Transport deptt starts exercise to identify routes

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led government on Thursday began a survey to identify routes for Delhi Mohalla Buses which will connect key places and points of interest in the national capital.

Informing about this, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said 23 survey teams have been formed to take feedback on possible routes for Mohalla buses to ensure that important places are covered.

“Under Kejriwal’s leadership, including the feedback of people has always been an important parameter to devising a solution that directly impacts their lives,” Kailash Gahlot added.

It is worth noting that Delhi Mohallas buses will include a small size (9 meters long) fleet of electric buses that will be introduced to transform public transportation in India’s national capital.

To identify routes, 23 technical survey teams will start an assessment and feedback survey to list locations that require the service.

“Delhiites are encouraged to share their feedback and suggestions on mohallabusfeedback@gmail.com, on the same,” Gahlot said. 

He further stated that the Delhi government has procured more than 2000 small-sized feeder electric buses that will operate on routes where normal-sized buses can’t ply.

The scheme was announced in this year’s budget speech and the government is aiming to operate 2,180 such electric buses for providing ease in traveling to and fro within Delhi.

The Transport department is taking residents’ feedback to ensure that ‘all important routes are covered by these Mohalla buses, connecting key places and points of interest in Delhi.

The dedicated teams will visit high-potential metro stations, bus terminals, stops, and various localities in Delhi as part of their mandate.

Their primary focus will be on analyzing Travel Demand Assessment, Road Network, the present level of Public Transport Connectivity, and Paratransit connectivity.

This data will be digitized and utilized to determine the origin and destination of the proposed Mohalla bus services in each locality to facilitate maximum passengers, develop efficient and effective travel solutions.
