‘White-washing’, a term commonly used for removing traces of Black folks occupancy in US, got a couple an appraisal of $5,00,000 for selling their house in America.
The incident was reportedly brought to notice by Tenisha Tate-Austin and Paul Austin after their property was valued at $1 million in 2020, a sum they thought was less than prevalent market rates.
And Austin couple wasn’t wrong in assuming that.
So they planned to ‘White-wash’ their property and later asked a white friend to pose as owner for few clicks.
The house was then valued at $1.5 million, $5,00,000 more than the previous assessment.
Tenisha and Paul sued the real-estate firm for racial discrimination while valuing their property and it was now reported that the firm has settled the case for undisclosed sum.
