After the success of the first version, the UK on Tuesday launched RiverCraft 2 to educate children on flood risks and choose a career to make a difference.

The 1st edition of Rivercraft was launched in April 2022 and it was based on the UK government’s 54.7m pounds flood risk mitigation scheme in Preston and South Ribble.

The game has been designed by Environment Agency, Microsoft and Blockbuilders developers to engage young minds on floods, climate change and biodiversity.

The RiverCraft 2 also aims at innovative and exciting geography resources for both teachers as well as students and it is available on Minecraft Education Edition.

Unlike the previous version that was based on specific location, RiverCraft 2 now showcases generic urban and rural worlds.

Comprising three suites, it aims to inspire the scientists and engineers of tomorrow. The game also includes Environment Agency Specialists as Non-Playable Characters.

Having been recognised by industry, RiverCraft 2 has already been shortlisted by two awards.

UK Environment Agency chief executive John Curtin said, “This is an amazing opportunity for young people to learn about flooding, the environment and climate resilience in a really fun and interactive way.

We know that climate anxiety is a real issue for young people, so we hope these games not only help to educate but also inspire, by providing them with the skills and knowledge to take action and make a difference.”

It has already been tested by children and teachers, both in primary and secondary schools, proving highly popular and it is now available to download.
